Sundance Award winning cinematographer Kirsten Johnson, Oscar nominated/ Emmy winning editor Sam Pollard and I were brought in 2008 by USAID to Amman, Jordan. The mission was to show and teach the staff of the Jordanian government television station (JTV) how to make verite documentaries. We went into the countryside and taught while filming a project which aired later that summer. Each person instructed about directing and then a technical aspect of filmaking; my specific focus was the art of location sound.
